How MinMaxify’s Billing Works in Shopify
This document explains how billing works for the MinMaxify app, which integrates directly with your Shopify store. We aim to be transparent and help you understand how Shopify handles app subscriptions.
Free Trial and Subscription Charges
When you first install MinMaxify, you'll begin with a free trial period. This allows you to explore the app's features and determine if it's a good fit for your store.
- Trial Period: Your trial period will be stated when you install the app.
- Subscription Charges Begin After Trial: If you do not uninstall the app before the end of your trial period, your paid subscription will begin automatically, and you will be charged.
- Shopify Recurring Charges: MinMaxify uses Shopify's recurring subscription charges. This means all charges related to MinMaxify will appear directly on your regular Shopify invoice.
- Billing Cycle: MinMaxify subscription charges are billed every 30 days by Shopify. The charge will appear as a separate line item on your Shopify invoice, clearly labeled as "MinMaxify Order Limits"
How MinMaxify Subscription Charges Work
- Recurring Charge: When you approve MinMaxify's subscription plan, a recurring charge is created in Shopify. This is done for every plan, including upgrades and downgrades.
- 30-Day Cycle: The charge is billed on a 30-day cycle, which is separate from your Shopify store's subscription billing cycle.
- Shopify Invoice: The MinMaxify charge is added to your upcoming Shopify invoice on the day of your subscription renewal. You will be able to see this upcoming charge in your Shopify billing settings, but we (MinMaxify) do not have access to this information.
- Existing Charges: Even if you uninstall MinMaxify a few days after installation, the generated recurring charge will still appear on your next invoice if you used the app at any point during that billing cycle, or after the trial period.
Understanding Shopify's Billing Cycles
- Shopify's 30-Day Cycle: Shopify bills you for your store's base subscription every 30 days in advance.
- MinMaxify's Independent Cycle: MinMaxify has a separate 30-day billing cycle. However, the charges are synced to appear on your Shopify invoice along with your store subscription charges.
- Offset Charges: Because the two billing cycles are separate, MinMaxify subscription fees might appear to be "offset" or "spread" across different Shopify bills.
Prorating, Upgrades, and Downgrades
MinMaxify offers multiple plan tiers (Standard, Premium, Plus). If you switch plans:
- New Recurring Charge: You will be asked to approve a new recurring charge in Shopify.
- Cancellation of Old Charge: The previous charge is canceled and replaced by the new one.
- Immediate Upgrade: The upgrade or downgrade might be immediate, with prorated charges appearing on your next bill.
Important Considerations Regarding Shopify's App Billing:
- Shopify Manages Billing: Shopify handles all aspects of the billing process for third-party apps like MinMaxify. We, the developers, do not have direct control over initiating or modifying charges on your Shopify account.
- Refunds After Invoice Payment: Because charges are processed through Shopify, any refunds due will be applied after your current invoice period ends and the invoice is paid. Refunds will appear on a future invoice.
- We Cannot Cancel Pending Charges: Once an app charge is approved and added to your upcoming Shopify invoice, we cannot cancel or remove it. This is due to the way Shopify's app billing system is structured.
Managing Your Subscription
- Uninstalling the App: To stop future charges, you must uninstall the MinMaxify app from your Shopify store before your next billing date.
- View Upcoming Charges: You can always see your upcoming Shopify charges, including those for MinMaxify, in your Shopify admin under
Settings > Billing
.
Requesting Refunds
- Refund Policy: We understand that circumstances can change. While we cannot cancel pending charges, we are typically able to process refunds after they have been paid on your Shopify invoice.
- How to Request:
- Uninstall the app (to prevent future charges).
- Contact our support at support@minmaxify.com
- We will review your request and process the refund back to your original payment method through Shopify. Please note, it might take a few days for processing time.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: Why do I see the subscription charge on my account before I'm actually billed?
- A: Shopify adds the charge to your account as soon as you approve it, but it's not due until your next 30-day subscription invoice (or until you exceed your billing threshold).
- Q: Can I avoid charges altogether if I uninstall right away?
- A: If you uninstall during your trial period, you will not be charged. If you uninstall during your first billing cycle after the trial, a charge may still appear for the time you had the app installed.
- Q: Why do my MinMaxify charges show up on different Shopify bills?
- A: MinMaxify's 30-day cycle may not match your main Shopify subscription cycle exactly. Sometimes a single MinMaxify cycle can appear across two different Shopify bills.
- Q: Do taxes apply to MinMaxify charges?
- A: Depending on your region, Shopify may charge taxes on app fees. Applicable taxes will appear on your Shopify invoice.
